IT outsourcing: when it makes sense to have an outside team working on the inside
Building a technology team from scratch takes time: recruiting, hiring, training and keeping good people in a competitive market. Meanwhile, the project that needed to start yesterday stays on hold, or lands on people who are already overloaded.
IT outsourcing means bringing in professionals from a specialized company to work inside your operation: one more developer on the team, a whole squad for a project, or someone looking after the systems you already have. The partner manages the people; the priorities remain your company’s.
It makes sense when demand outgrows the team, when a specific skill is missing (Cloud, DevOps, data) or when the workload changes throughout the year. It does not make sense to outsource the core of the business without anyone on the inside following along.
What separates outsourcing that works from outsourcing that becomes a headache is integration: the outside team needs to join the meetings, use the same tools and be held accountable with the same transparency as the people inside. Without that, it becomes just another vendor.
